活動詳情 About the Event
Please join us on Wednesday 8 May 2019 for an ekphrastic poetry workshop, making use of writing prompts based on Shaun Tan's The Arrival (2006), led by Kate Rogers. Participants are very welcome to read their poems.
The Arrival is the first book chosen for 我城我書 / One City One Book Hong Kong, a community reading programme initiated by the Centre for Popular Culture in the Humanities at The Education University of Hong Kong, which aims to encourage as many people as possible, to read and discuss the same book at around the same time. Each year students, scholars, readers and writers of all kinds will focus their attention on one single book. The Arrival is a wordless graphic novel by the Chinese Australian graphic novelist Shaun Tan.
The Arrival is a particularly appropriate choice for the first One City One Book initiative in Hong Kong. Shaun Tan's wordless graphic novel transcends language barriers and tells an immigrant story with resonant themes of migration, belonging, and hospitality. This celebrated book appeals to people of all ages, be they children, young adults or adults.
