for Xi Xi's My City
The teaching and learning materials below are developed for students and teachers would like to read My City alongside One City One Book 2020.
The project can make available copies of My City in both English and Chinese. These may be loaned to classes of students.
In addition, the project can provide the services of Student Ambassadors, who are EdUHK preservice teachers who have received training related to Xi Xi and My City. Student Ambassadors are available to conduct primary and secondary school lessons and reading club activities, appear at events, or provide support during teaching and learning. Zoom workshops are also AVAILABLE!

My City Unit Plan for Secondary 4-6 (Chinese)
This thematic teaching plan was developed by Mr Pao Kwok Hung (a senior secondary school teacher of Chinese Literature, former Chairman of the Committee on Secondary 6 Chinese Literature Education of Curriculum Development Institute, and former Chairman of HKEAA Committee on Chinese Literature Education). It was edited by Dr Fung Chi Wang (Assistant Professor in Literature and Cultural Studies at EdUHK and Member of HKEAA Committee on Chinese Language Education of Curriculum Development Council, 2017-2021).
The unit plan includes literary appreciation, creative writing, suggestions for in-class activities, assessment design, and suggested criteria for assessment. The plan meets the learning needs in the New Senior Secondary Chinese Language and Chinese Literature subjects. For further information, please contact Dr Fung Chi Wang.
My City Lesson Plans for Secondary Students (English)
These three lesson plans were developed by the Student Ambassadors of One City One Book Hong Kong 2020 with guidance from Ms. Jessica Lee, Lecturer in the English Language Education Department at The Education University of Hong Kong. Lesson focuses and objectives are described within.
My City Creative Writing Lesson for Secondary Students (English)
This English-language creative-writing lesson for secondary school students was developed by Collier Nogues (a Hong Kong PhD Fellow at HKU and the author of two books of poetry in English). The lesson develops students’ understanding of characterization based on examples from My City.
My City Creative Writing Lesson for Secondary Students (Chinese)
This Chinese-language creative-writing lesson for secondary school students was developed by Mr. Sy Wai Nok (Lecturer II of Department of Literature and Cultural Studies of EdUHK). Based on chapter 5 of My City, the lesson helps students appreciate Xi Xi’s metaphors and employ her techniques.
